Postures are important in everything we do. Including sleeping.

We spend many hours sleeping, so it makes sense to maintain healthy postures during the night to wake up feeling good.  Our spine from the neck to the pelvis should be supported in a neutral position as we sleep.

How do we do this?? Pillow placement.

Back sleepers: Place a pillow under knees to relax your low back. Use a cervical or supportive pillow to keep your neck in a neutral posture. AVOID feather pillows! They do not have enough support.

Side sleepers: Place a pillow between your knees to avoid sleeping with a twisted spine. You too need a supportive pillow for your head and neck.  The depth must be larger to cover the increased space between your neck and the bed when on your side.

Stomach sleepers: Just don’t!  It is impossible to get your neck in a good posture when on your stomach unless your bed has a hole for your face like a massage table. So, avoiding being on your stomach for prolonged time is advised. You can put a pillow under your pelvis to keep your low back comfortable, but your neck will still pay the price.

Paying attention to postures in everyday life can help you to feel great!
